Flavor notes:
peach, apricot, sugar cane, berry, cacao nibs, floral

Process: Washed

Roast Level: Light

Cup Description:

This is a juicy cup of coffee! Right away, you’ll notice the fruit-forward flavors; think peach and apricot. It has playful acidity, like biting into a ripe berry! As it cools, you’ll notice an underlining of brown sugar and maybe even a little bit of cacao. The cup is light on the mouth, kind of like a floral tea, but the lingering aftertaste is quite pleasant. Like many other Kenyan coffees, this one is a fruit bomb!

Farm Description:

The Mahiga Factory sits up at 1800 meters in Nyeri County, nestled in the Othaya region of central Kenya. Coffee is processed and kept separate by process batch at the factory in order to identify quality. It’s a small but mighty operation, made up of just over 500 smallholder farmers who deliver ripe coffee cherries to be processed on-site.

The team at Mahiga uses a traditional washed method: first, the cherries are depulped with a disc machine, then fermented to loosen the sticky fruit layer. After that, the coffee is soaked clean and dried slowly on raised beds under the sun. It’s a careful, hands-on process that brings clarity and character to the final cup.

This particular lot is a peaberry outturn—a natural mutation where only one seed develops inside the cherry, resulting in a small, round bean. We found this peaberry selection to be especially refined and fruit-forward, standing out with delicate sweetness and layers of juicy brightness.

FAQ

How do subscriptions work?

Select a frequency, how often you'd like to receive fresh coffee. Your card will be charged for today's purchase and depending on which frequency you chose (every week, every two weeks, once a month), your card will be charged from today's date and I will fulfill those orders then. You will receive fresh coffee based on the frequency of your subscription!

How do I choose the grind size?

Depends on how you brew your coffee! If you use a regular coffee pot, choose the drip option and I'll grind it the right size for you. Same for all other options.

Do you have "K-cups"?

The short answer is no. HOWEVER, if you use a Keurig, you can simply put the coffee I send you in a re-useable K-cup. Same for Nespresso machines.

Do I need special equipment to brew this coffee?

Absolutely not! You can brew this coffee with your equipment of choice, however you enjoy your coffee. I tend to enjoy pour-over coffees, but feel free to use your typical coffee pot, French press, espresso machine, etc. Whatever floats your boat!

One caveat is that I will have some coffees that I have roasted with specific brew methods in mind (looking at you espresso!). That being said, you can enjoy all of these coffees with any brew method!
